The Secret Tip Every Beginner Golfer Should Know

Why is golf so difficult compared to other sports? There are several reasons. Probably the number one factor when comparing golf to other sports is “accuracy”. There is so much less room for error when compared to other sports.

If we consider baseball as an example, baseball uses a much larger ball, as well as a comparatively larger club to swing. There are several chances of hitting the ball to make a play. And then you have the help of other players to meet your goal of either getting to home plate or making field plays to cause the other team to reach three outs.

On the other hand, with golf you have to hit the ball perfectly each time you’re up for your shot. You have just one swing and that’s it (we’ll ignore Muligans). Because of the small size of the club face and of the ball, the room for error is extremely small. And with people watching, and the pressure that brings, the ol’ nerves can start working and make you feel very uneasy.

Beginner Tip: Take It Slow

Those of you who are just starting out in golf or who have not been playing very long should take the time to follow a few basic tips that every seasoned golfer did when they first started playing.

And what is the most important beginner tip? Take the game slow and keep everything simple. Probably the biggest obstacles that any beginner golfer faces are the mental obstacles. With so much concentration that is required, the focus you need to have, the pressure from an audience, one of the best tips for any beginner golfer is to simply take things slow.

Learn the game at a pace that is comfortable for you. The majority of new golfers seem to go all out. They buy a brand-new set of golf clubs. They hit the ball at a driving range for a few days and then they immediately go out and play on some fancy and prestigious 18-hole course.

It makes sense that the new golfer is probably excited and wants to immerse themselves in this newfound sport. But, compare this game to swimming. Think about what your approach to learning to swim would be. Do you just dive into the deep section of the pool? Absolutely not. Why would you expect to do the same thing with golf? By moving too fast, you put yourself on the road to frustration and, most likely, you will find yourself quitting the game.

So, take things slow, learn the basics, learn the fundamentals. Get some lessons, start out playing on a 9-hole course, rent some clubs until you know if this game is for you. By taking things slowly, your accomplishments will start to build on one another and your enjoyment of the game will continue to increase.

I like your comparison to baseball. Excellent! Trying to keep the ball in play (accuracy) is one of the big stresses in golf. In baseball, you just try to hit it.
