Shopping For A New Putter
If you have done any shopping for a new putter, you know that the choices from today’s golf equipment manufacturers are huge. Not only are there hundreds of companies that make putters, but they all make many versions. Needless, to say, this creates a daunting choice for golfers. The stress of choosing the right putter can take its toll when you consider that you’ll be spending a lot of time using the putter you finally choose.
Choosing Your Putter–Like Choosing a Mate
When you think about it, your putter is going to be around for a long time. You use your putter for more strokes than any other club in your bag. Because having confidence in your putting game is an important aspect of lowering your score and becoming a better player, you have to be completely convinced that the putter you buy is going to get the job done.
Most golfers don’t choose a putter based purely on its cost, which is a wise move. You need to find the putter that is comfortable for you, one that you can count on. In an earlier post, I talked about how to choose the perfect putter. Once you make the selection, then you should commit yourself to using that putter with the assurance that it will fit like a glove and help you become a better putter.
Don’t rush your selection. Try not to be completely overwhelmed with the huge number of putters that are available. Try them out, take your time until you find that one club that is right for you. As a beer commercial from long ago used to say, “When it’s right, you’ll know it!”

I found out it doesn’t matter if I’m putting with a Scotty Cameron $200 putter,or a knock off, the results are the same. Should we as golfers spend over $100 for a putter? Seems obsurd to me. Lets all boycott putting companies and make them lower their prices!

Hey, Larry,
Maybe choosing a putter is more important than choosing a mate. You’ll be up close and personal with it at least 18 times a day. Don’t think I can do that with my mate! ;0}
Reading your blog brought a few memories and an itch. However, it’s been 20 years. I don’t think I could get my 3 handicap back so I’ll just PUTTER around the hanger.
All the best to y’all

Hi Art,
I agree–I don’t think the mate would allow it, let alone would I be capable.
Keep in mind, an itch usually needs to be scratched. There’s nothing that says you have to get back to a 3 handicap.
Thanks for the comment.
Larry
