Right Golf Club For The Situation
According to the USGA Rules, you are allowed to carry up to 14 clubs in your golf bag. Part of the fun (and sometimes challenge) of golf is to try to determine which club you should use on any given shot. The golf course presents many variables that have to be dealt with. These variables can change at any moment. And any or all of these variables will have a significant influence on which golf club you should use.
As an example, both the 3-iron and the 5-wood can hit the ball at about the same distance. So what determines which of these two clubs you should use? It so happens that the 5-wood will send the ball much higher than the 3-iron. Because the ball travels higher with the 5-wood, it will also land softer and therefore, roll a shorter distance than the 3-iron.
So what are the variables that can come into play in determining which of these clubs to use? If you are playing on a perfect day with no wind whatsoever, you should probably choose the 5-wood. With no wind to affect the higher flight trajectory of the ball, there is more control of the ball once it lands.
On the other hand, with the same shot and with windy conditions, you would probably be better off using the 3-iron. The lower trajectory of the ball flight with this club won’t be affected by the wind nearly as much as if a 5-wood was used.
