Golf Lessons

Something to consider when you are first starting to play golf is to take some lessons. A good place to find reasonable lessons is at your local driving range. They will typically offer either individual lessons or group lessons. They will usually have introductory lessons that will focus on the fundamentals of the game of golf. By taking some lessons, you will be started on the right track.

Taking some golf lessons can be a great investment for you, both in terms of your time and your money.

It’s sad to say that many new golfers will first go out with a friend who is probably not a very good golfer. That friend now becomes the teacher. It is not uncommon for the new golfer to quickly pick up many bad habits and techniques without realizing it. Bad golf habits are very difficult to unlearn.

Once you’ve taken some golf lessons and you begin to “feel” your swing, then the old phrase “practice makes perfect” comes into play. Golf is probably the is defined by this phrase more than any other activity. It’s only by practicing that you will learn good golf habits so you can enjoy the game for a long time.

While the golf swing looks very easy when you’re watching somebody else play or when you watch the pros on TV, it is a very complicated process. The golf swing is made up of a whole series of complicated moves that occur in several phases. These occur from the point of address of the ball, to your backswing, into the downswing, during impact of the club face with the ball and ending with the follow-through. It is only with lessons and practice that a new golfer will be able to achieve this seemingly easy, but deceptively difficult process.

The more lessons and practice that the new golfer engages in, the easier and more enjoyable the game will become.

That’s a good point. When I started playing, my buddy was my teacher. Big mistake. Once I started taking some lessons, the pro had to “unteach” me all the bad habits I had developed.

    Thanks

Learning the fundamentals is critical for a beginning golfer! Get these down, and learning the swing is much easier. Do some research to find the teacher that’s the best fit for you.

    Mike,

I couldn’t agree with you more. Finding the right teacher is essential to developing a good swing. Getting the fundamentals down is the key to the whole game.

    Thanks for your comment.
