Are You Wasting Time At The Driving Range?

The local driving range is probably the best place to practice your swing and to learn how to make contact with the ball. You can hit as many balls as you want, for as long as you want and virtually any day of the week. For the most part, practice at the driving range will fit into most anybody’s schedule.

The driving range is the ideal place to work on and to fix any problems you’re having with your swing. If the problem is slicing the ball too much, hitting a hook shot or any other common problem that most beginner golfers face, the range is the place to work on correcting these problems.

Make Every Shot Count

You have to take full advantage of the driving range if you want to improve your skills and to be able to play a decent round of golf on the course. But what do we mean by “taking advantage”? This can mean something different to each person.

Over the years I’ve seen both men and women smacking every ball into the air as fast as they can. It’s almost as if the goal is to see how fast they can get through a bucket of balls. They hit one ball after another without stopping to focus on what they’re doing or trying to accomplish. They’re not working on any technique–just knocking the ball. Consider that it’s better to go for quality, rather than quantity, when at the range.

How do you do that? Pretend you’re actually on the course and playing a real round of golf. Take your time, concentrate. Focus and think about each part of your swing. After you hit and the ball is in the air, watch its path, see where it goes and how far it travels. By adding this kind of exercise to your time at the range, you can gain some much-needed information on the mechanics of your swing and how to fix problems.

And then repeat this for each of your clubs–the woods, the long and the short irons. You’ll soon find you game improving, as long as you take advantage of your practice sessions at the range.
