6 Tips For New Golfers Who Are “Wet Behind The Ears”

Remember the purpose of this blog is to provide sensible information to beginner golfers. That said, here are 6 basic tips for the newest of the new golfers–

1. The objective of golf is to get your ball into each of the 18 holes on the course in as few shots as possible–low score wins.

2. Every hole has a par number. “Par” indicates the maximum number of shots it should take to complete the hole. Holes will have pars of 3, 4 or 5 (shorter distance holes are par 3 holes, longest distance holes are par 5 holes).

3. Every golf course and every hole has obstacles. These are designed to make the game more difficult (as if it weren’t difficult enough). Most of these obstacles are man-made, such as sand pits (known as bunkers or traps) and out-of-bound areas. However, other obstacles may include ponds, streams, trees, bushes, and other wooded areas. These various obstacles are also known as hazards.

4. No matter what your budget is, you can find a golf course in most any area that has reasonable prices. Most golf courses have 18 holes and others have only 9 holes (these are perfect for beginners).

5. Do your practicing at the local driving range. This is a great place to tweak your technique. Be sure to practice long and short shots, as well as putting.

6. When you’re at the driving range take advantage of every shot. Aim for a specific target (just like you would on the golf course). Using this technique will help you to gain better distance and more control over the ball. As you continue to practice you’ll get to the point where you can hit the ball in the direction YOU want it to go.

That about wraps up this post. Again, this post is primarily for the newest of the new golfers.
