When you decide the time is right to find that perfect putter, start out by visiting as many golf accessory stores that you can find. You are likely to find a lot of variability in the information and advice you get from these stores, but it will give you some idea of what’s available. This will let you start to narrow down the huge selection of putters that are out there.

Probably some of the best advice and selection you can find will be at your local golf course. Visit the golf shop there and talk to the people. They’ll want to know what level golfer you are, what type of putter you’ve been using, and lots of other information. One big advantage of shopping here is that you can grab a few putters and spend some time trying each one.

Here are a few tips as to what to look for during your practice swings when you are looking for that perfect putter–

1. Test different length shots with the various putters. Take several long putts, as well as several short putts with each of the putters you are considering.

2. There are literally hundreds of putters available and many different styles of putters. Consider the style of putter that fits your character.

3. Hit some putts with your eyes closed. By doing this you’ll get a better feel for the putter’s weight. You will also get a better sense of how it feels when the club makes contact with the ball.

You are likely to spend a reasonable amount of money for a good putter. Take the time to consider what it is you’re looking for. Be sure to try the putter–don’t just hit a few putts. Really give it a workout. Spend some time on the green with each of the putters you are considering. Try various length putts. Once you go through this, making the decision about the perfect putter for you will be easy.
